Do your bit: March 5 is World Energy Saving Day

World Energy Saving Day on March 5 reminds us of the importance of using our resources responsibly. At a time when climate change is an ever-increasing threat and energy resources are becoming scarcer, it is vital that we take action together to save energy and protect our environment.

World Energy Saving Day is an opportunity to highlight the many ways in which each of us can play our part in saving energy. From small changes in everyday behavior to larger investments in energy-efficient technologies, there are numerous ways to reduce our energy consumption and cut costs at the same time.

Saving energy = saving hot water

Saving energy is a broad concept that encompasses various aspects of energy consumption, including heating, cooling, lighting, transportation and much more. One area of energy saving that is often overlooked, but nonetheless significant, is saving hot water.

Hot water is an essential part of our daily lives, be it for showering, washing dishes, laundry and much more. Each of us uses around 130 liters of water every day. However, the production of hot water requires a lot of energy: after heating, the production of hot water is the second biggest energy guzzler in the household!

Less water consumption also reduces costs

Showering and washing hands consumes a lot of water and energy. However, hot water consumption also affects our operating costs in apartments and houses. This is because the more hot water is used, the more the costs for water and energy increase. So it pays to save here! If you want to save energy and costs in the long term, you should reduce your hot water consumption.

How to save hot water easily

Showering instead of bathing: Showers generally use less water and therefore less hot water than a full bath. Try to shorten your bathing time to save water and energy.

Use cold water for small tasks: You don't need hot water to wash your hands or brush your teeth. Use cold water instead - even that saves energy!

Water savers for showers and washbasins: With water savers and flow reducers in the shower and also for taps, hot water consumption can be sustainably reduced. However, look out for innovative products that do not reduce comfort!

Use efficient appliances: Invest in energy-efficient appliances, such as washing machines, which use less water and energy.
