15 liters per minute is 7 liters too much!

Standard showers and washbasin taps often have a water flow rate of 12 to 15 liters per minute. If you consider that people often shower for up to 10 minutes and wash their hands very often, this adds up to a large amount of hot water! Given the rise in energy prices and household costs, it pays to save twice as much here.

8 liters are enough

For showers with a flow rate of over 8 liters per minute, saving hot water makes sense without any loss of comfort. However, only those who know how much hot water they use can take targeted measures.

Measure your own hot water consumption

You can easily determine your own water consumption in the shower with a bucket test in 3 steps:

  1. Have a bucket (or container) and stopwatch (e.g. cell phone app) ready.
  2. Turn on the shower tap fully and fill the bucket with shower water for 1 minute.
  3. Measurement of filling quantity liters/minute:
    - Read off the fill level (if liters are indicated on the bucket) or
    - determine the filling weight with a scale (kg = liter).

Our tip: The same measurement can also be taken for washbasins!
